The Big Lie...

There is a BIG lie circulating on the Internet...and I am going to expose it to you today once and for all. Today, there will be no beating around the bush. 

The Truth has to be told. 

This Lie is so overwhelming that probably 90% or more of Internet marketers are being taken advantage by it...and it is sapping their potential in business day after day.

I have seen many individuals who do all of the right marketing techniques...and yet it seems like they can never reach a breakthrough in their business. They are currently making money online, BUT they always seem to wonder why they just can't reach the next level in their businesses.

They have a roadblock in their way...a ceiling you may say to the growth of their business. That roadblock is the fact that they do not own their own product or service. They are limited to just being a reseller for someone else.

Being a reseller of other people's products and services can be a very profitable experience. Most businesses actually start out this way, but you should always be looking to create or obtain rights to your own products or services.

The most successful Internet marketers own their product or service. I could name names if I wanted to, but it won't be necessary. STOP right now and think about it for a moment. Think about the people who you consider to be extremely successful marketers. 

How many of them own their own products?

Can you name any who don't have their own products? I am not saying that every product in their arsenal is owned by them...Most also resell other people's products or services in their line-up, but they always have that product which is theirs.

You could be given every internet marketing secret out there, but this one factor can limit your success online. Do you have your own product or service...or are you limited to just what other people have available to you.

To simplify this principle even further to make sure you realize exactly what I am saying I am going to tell you the most powerful traffic building technique available: Being Unique!

I could talk to you about free classifieds, free postcards, message boards, chat rooms, and more...all wonderful traffic building tools. We could go into numerous cgi 
programs which pull traffic to your site. We could even talk about contests, But the ONE thing that does more for your site than anything else is if it is unique or not.

If it is an exact carbon copy of another site there is NO reason for someone to visit your site over the original. They might as well just go straight to the source. The sites who draw traffic have developed their own original theme around a certain subject of interest.

Don't come to me and say, "Terry, I make money as a reseller for so-and-so." I know you do. This article in no way intends to say that you can't make money as a reseller. Many people are making money as resellers. As a matter of fact, I have my own reseller program for people. What I do intend to say is:

DON'T LIMIT YOURSELF!

Time and time again, people just don't believe that they are able to do something spectacular...They limit themselves to being just another worker for someone else (Although Now they only get paid by commission). They don't have the freedom to be creative and do the things they like.

Chances Are...You're one of them. Are you following your own interests in business? Are you a leader or just a follower in your field?

This article needs to inspire you to action. Do Something. Create your own product or service. Write a book. Record an audio tape. Shoot a video. Create your own newsletter. Start a web service. Do submissions for people. Learn how to write killer ads. Be a private investigator online. 

What is it that interests you?

HOW TO FIND A SUCCESSFUL PRODUCT

We can't just leave you hanging out in limbo though. I want to show you the secret "millionaires" use to create just the right product or service. Successful product producers approach product or service creation exactly OPPOSITE the way the general population approaches product creation.

The average marketer says, "I have this wonderful product...Now I need to figure out a way to market it." Sometimes they may say, "I have a wonderful product idea...everyone will need this."

Let me tell you a secret a direct marketing millionaire told me not too long ago which completely blew my mind...Are you ready?

"Pick Your Market First, and then let them develop your product!"

Let me explain. Most marketers approach selling like this. They spend months or years creating this wonderful product. Then, they try to find a market to sell it to. Successful marketers find a market...determine their DESIRES...and then give them exactly what they want.

Think about it from an internet perspective. This means that you find people who want to visit websites for _____________. Then, develop a product for those people. This is completely different from developing a product and website in a certain field and then trying to figure out how to get people to visit it. 

With the power of the internet, we can immerse ourselves in different markets and do research for free! We can find out what they need. We can poll what they want. Then, we 
can start giving people exactly what they want. Call this the "Ultimate" Traffic Building Secret. 

Find the traffic...then develop the site. Currently we are looking into several different areas and building up new web domains that focus completely on those areas where people are already looking for information on. In the coming months, I will let you know what they were (I am not revealing any of them yet as many of you crafty characters would try to take my ideas). 

You can find a market online. Then, develop what those people are looking for...Don't just thank about how to make money. If you find a market, reveal their Desires, and give them what they want in good marketing fashion, the money will come. 

NOTE: I said look for their desires, not their needs. The fastest way to go broke is trying to sell to people's needs. People buy what they want, not what they actually need in most cases.

Find your market...then create your product.

How to Quickly and Easily Create Your Own Information Products for Fun and Profit

To take maximum profits away from the table in your own internet business, you must be the prime source of a hot product or service. What I am going to present to you today is one easy step-by-step system to create your own product that is 100% easier than writing a book or creating a report.

Information Products are the ideal business to start if you are looking for an online business...They are easy to produce, simple to ship, and can enjoy high markups because people are not paying for the physical form the product is delivered in. They are paying for the valuable information contained within.

Although most people only see reports and books when we speak of information products, I want you to see just how versatile this market can be. You could produce software, videos, audios, newsletters, secret sites, and more. The only limitations in this 
business are the ones you create yourself.

You may say to me, "But Terry, I just don't know how to do anything that people want!" Well, I have a solution for that problem. If you have found a market that wants a product of a certain nature, contact an expert and do an interview with them...then sell that tape! (Most experts will do the tape with you right over the phone for just the cost of consulting - Usually $100 - $1000).

If you do have knowledge that people want (Which I highly expect is true even if you won't admit it to me)...then you can do your own audio tape course. 

Below I am going to give you a quick 6 step system for creating your own tapes...and then we will do a short overview on how to contact an expert and get them to do a tape with you.

Step 1 - Make a list of your hobbies, interests, and problems which you can solve.

Do people come to you often and ask for your advice on certain things? If so...there is a product idea! Design a product that solves their problems. Find a Problem or a Desire people have that you have overcome, and then the system you followed is the basis for your product. 

Do you train dogs? There's a product.

Do You Build Model Airplanes? There's a product.

Do You Save Money through Auctions? There's a product.

Did you figure out how to set up a web site? There's a product.

Do you Get Top 10 Rankings on Search Engines? There's a product.

Do you write killer sales letters? There's a product.

Product ideas are all around you...There are probably at least half a dozen products inside you waiting for the chance to come out!

Step 2 - Research Your Targeted Market to Find Out What they are Interested in.

If you plan to sell your product online, make sure there is a market for it first before you ever create the product. Visit forums and newsgroups using http://www.forumone.com and http://www.dejanews.com and do some research. Prepare a short Questionnaire and give something away free to people who answer it for you.

Corporations spend millions of dollars a year in research...but as a small home business you can do your research for free online through contacting and networking through newsgroups, forums, and mailing lists.

Step 3 - Purchase the necessary equipment.

You don't have to go to a studio to record your tape unless you have an unlimited budget. If you can afford a studio, it will produce a little better tape, but for most people starting out that is just another undue expense.

Go down to your local Radio Shack and purchase high quality audio tapes and a dynamic microphone. A good one will probably cost you between $40 and $100...Ask one of the sales representatives to recommend a good one. If you need an adapter for your tape recorder, get one of those as well.

If you don't own a double cassette deck, you will probably want to get one of those...Why? You can also dub your first couple of tape sales right there in your home and wait to send it out to a duplicator until you know for sure it is a real hot seller. 

Notice that you don't need expensive equipment to get started in this business...although you may upgrade later as you go on.

Step 4 - Make An Outline.

When you did your research in step 2, what were your potential customers interested in most? Now, create a product that gives a step-by-step training on how to overcome that problem or achieve that objective. 

Rack your brain and come up with steps that will take your customers to their desired solution. You have to make it simple. This is probably the most difficult part of your product...You have to boil down all of your research, your experience, and come up with a simple system people can follow to achieve their objective. 

Step 5 - Record your tapes.

Now, shut off the phones...and set-up your little recording studio. Make a time on your schedule to do your tape or your series and stick to it...because you will probably want to procrastinate the process into oblivion. 

Sit down and record under 60 minutes for the tape (Note most tapes actually have 62 - 64 minutes on them). You have to be careful to stop way before the end of the tape so that there is room to record an intro or a "Please turn the tape over" message.

Step 6 - Start Marketing today.

How much is your tape worth? You can sell an individual audio tape for $9.95 - $29.95 depending on the subject OR you can produce a series of tapes...I have seen these sell for as much as $495 if they were on the right topic. You really have to test your price. 

Any secretarial service can transcribe your tapes for you if you want to produce a higher priced product out of them. You do a little bit of editing to them, combine your new manual to the tapes, and you have a higher valued product to sell.

How to Get an Expert to Do the Work For You!

If you just can't come up with an idea of a decent product for yourself, find an expert to do one for you...

You would still have to do Step One, Two, and Three yourself coming up with the product idea, researching, and purchasing the equipment. Note that when you purchase the equipment for this you may need to buy a microphone which hooks into your telephone (Ask the friendly sales people at Radio Shack and they will have just what you need).

Then, contact the right experts for the mission. Find people who are experts in the areas you want to present to your customers and send them a letter telling them exactly what you want to do...Most experts will agree to this if you approach them correctly. 

Show them the benefits they get out of this...

  • You are doing the market research to find a hot product.
  • You are paying them their regular consulting rate for the tape.
  • You will prepare the questions for them to answer and give them ahead of time unless they already have something ready.
  • You will give them Full Reprint rights to the tape so both you and them can sell it.
  • They will be able to present other products and services they have for sale on the backend of the tape.
  • It is definitely a Win-Win situation. They get all of those benefits and you have a new product to sell in your business. 

    Not the Only Way - But It is a Good Start for You

    This is not the only way to create information products by any means, but it is enough to get you started. Are you going to make some mistakes...YES....but you will have started in the right direction. If you follow this process, you will have your own hot product to sell online for years to come. All you have left to do is write the ad...but that is a subject for another day.

    Why Digital Publishing Is the Ultimate Internet Business

    Opportunities abound on the Internet, but one opportunity stands head-and-shoulders above all of the rest for home based entrepreneurs. That opportunity is in digital publishing.

    I have done or consulted with many different types of businesses, including: CD sales, web hosting, web services, search engine promotion, pet products, content sites, network marketing companies, etc. Throughout the various companies I have dealt with, the one business I love the most is digital publishing.

    Think about it. When you are publishing information products, you have:

  • Low Entry Costs
  • Very Little Overhead
  • High Margins
  • An Automatic Business
  • You may say that those things are true of all Internet businesses, but they are not. If you run a web hosting company, the entry costs are high and you have a high overhead. You need to have your own dedicated server at minimum which can run in the thousands.

    Your margins are usually very tight as web hosting is a verycompetitive arena. Then, you come to if the business is automatic or not. It definitely is not automatic. You have to provide continuous support to your customers and they really expect you to be working 24 hours or day...or to have staff that does!

    Many other Internet businesses will show the exact same pattern. If you provide any type of service for example, you can only make money when you are actually working. When you take time off, your income does as well.

    You may then respond, "Well I'll just join an affiliate program and promote them!" What you don't realize and most affiliate program owners won't tell you is that the incomes from affiliate programs are very tiny for those members who don't at least have the first form of digital publishing in place...their own opt-in ezine.

    That's right. It is next to impossible to earn a really good check from affiliate programs unless you run your own opt-in ezine, which is a form of digital publishing. People have no reason to trust your recommendations of affiliate programs until you have earned their trust through publishing a quality ezine.

    Starting an ezine (online magazine) is extremely low cost and will get you started in your own publishing business. Unlike publishing an offline newsletter which involves you dealing with printers, postal rates, and other types of expenses, your ezine will only cost you one low yearly fee ($100 to $400 depending on how you publish).

    So, it has a very low entry cost, very little overhead, and is mostly automatic (as the software does the subscribing and removes for you). The margins are terrific. If you are selling ad space for $10 per ad and have 10 ads per issue, you make $100 from ads.

    If you promote one affiliate program in each issue, you could earn $200 (this is from a small list of 1,000 or so subscribers). That would total $300 for each issue with no expenses in sending it out and no ad costs on your part. Once you get into the tens of thousands of subscribers like many ezines have, those numbers become much larger and much more profitable.

    This is the reason you see so many ezines being published out there now. With a low cost of entry and high potential profits, everyone wants to get in on the act. This just means that your ezine needs to be of a higher quality than the "norm" being published.

    Write your own articles or select articles to be published which haven't been published everywhere else. Add in a little of your own personal flavor to the issues. Sure, some people might not like your personality showing through, but the average reader will feel much closer to you...and more likely to buy from you.

    Ezines which don't have a personality to them quickly perish in the heat of competition. Customers like to see real people. So instead of being big Mr. Publisher, be a real person with real opinions. Don't worry about being seen as too biased as you are supposed to be biased. You're human!

    Then, once you feel comfortable publishing an ezine, it is time to move onto the next step in your digital publishing career. Create your own electronic book.

    Digital publishing of your products has additional advantages to information publishing in general. First of all, you have no publishing cost except for the software to create your manual in the first place. Adobe Acrobat costs $200 and can make a digital product which can be used on both IBM and Macintosh platforms. Compare that to print publishing which will cost you a minimum of $2,000 for your book.

    Digital products have no fulfillment costs and no shipping costs. Don't overlook the cost of shipping in your business, as we have paid as much as $150 shipping a training course to an International customer. Just think what you would lose on that including shipping and product costs if the order came back as credit card fraud.

    Digital products have a final benefit that in my opinion outweighs all others. They can be set to 100% auto-pilot. You can have the product sales done by secure order form, processed in real-time online, and the product instantly delivered to yourcustomers with ZERO involvement on your part.

    You could have several products all selling from different sites all being automatically processed without you having to spend any time with them whatsoever. The money would keep coming in while you work on new projects, go on vacation, or spend time with your family. This is the real dream business.

    Yes, you do have to spend a lot of time creating that hot product to sell and setting up the automatic systems, but the money will just keep coming in once they are up.

    Take this as the voice of experience. Automating your entire business is one of the most important things you can do. Otherwise, you will eventually find that the "Success" of your business is to the detriment of everything else...taking up all of your time (even if you hire employees to do the work you will spend your time managing the employees).

    When you are first starting out, selling services seems like a good idea...until you start having a lot of business and bringing in a lot of money. Then, that good idea quickly turns into an overload of work.

    So...In the End...My Recommended Opinion for Creating The Perfect Internet Business You Can Run From Home With the Minimum of Hassles Is:

    Step One: Pick a Market and Subject You Enjoy and Love.
    Step Two: Create Your Own Ezine.
    Step Three: Build a Large Subscriber List and Start Profiting.
    Step Four: Create Your Own Electronic Book
    Step Five: Automate the Entire Process and Do it again.
