5 Internet Myths Still Floating Around
By Terry Dean

You would think that some of the old Internet myths would just die off with the growth of Internet commerce, but some of them just won't die. Even though you can't ignore the growth of online commerce, businesses still believe some of the exact same myths that were started years ago.

Let's put an end to some of them here and now...

Myth #1: No one is making money online.

This myth has been around as long as the Internet as existed. The truth is that a lot of companies are earning incredible profits online. Some of them even become extremely profitable within 6 months of being online.

An independent study has reported that 30% of Internet businesses are currently earning money. This is an extremely large number considering the fact that the Internet as a whole is still in it's infancy. Wait to see what kind of results are going to be produced in the coming years and decades of e-commerce.

Myth #2: If you build it, they will come.

This is opposite of the first myth. You have one side who believes no one can make money online while the other side believes all you have to do is a set up a web site and rack in the dough. This concept may have been a good basis for a movie, but it is completely inadequate for Internet marketing.

If you just sling together any old site and put it up on the web, you are going to quickly turn into one of the people who believe the first myth about the Internet. Marketing online is no different than any other type of marketing in this area. You have to plan your business, design good marketing materials, build relationships with customers, and learn how to sell more to your existing customers.

If you build a well designed, well thought out site and promote it, they will come. If you just build it, it will just sit there.

Myth #3: You need fancy graphics to catch your customer's interest.

Fancy graphics are not essential for online sales. If your graphics are so detailed that they take too long to load, they will even cost you sales. Most people are still connected to their Internet using basic modems and graphic intensive sites often take too long to load for most people's attention span.

This is not to say that you can just use cheap graphics. Use quality well designed graphics on your site, but keep them to a minimum. The key to online sales is showing your customers the benefits of your product or service. It is not in just having a gorgeous web site with dozens of pictures.

Myth #4: Internet consumers are so sophisticated that ad copy doesn't matter anymore.

Yes, Internet consumers do see through the hype that many people try to push off as ad copywriting. This does not mean that you can just put together string of words and a couple of pictures and hope people buy from you. If you want to have customers constantly purchasing products and services from you, you have to write ad copy which shows them the BENEFITS of your product or service.

The key to ad writing is to show your benefits, not just your features. You can't just tell people a bit about your product. You need to let them know exactly what it will do for them. You need to help them get as exited about your product or service as you are. Ad copy does make a difference online.

If you don't currently have a headline on your web site, get one immediately. Ninety-five percent of web sites you visit won't have one, but yours can. Then, list multiple benefits your visitors will receive for staying at your site. If you don't let them know what they will get out of your site immediately, then they will leave your site as quick as they entered.

Myth #5: You can find anything and everything online for Free.

A lot of people think that they can get everything they need in their business for free online. This just isn't the case. The old saying,"You get what you pay for" does apply to the Internet as well.

For example, free web hosts will end up costing you money in the long run. People don't look at sites that are hosted for free in the same light they do ones which have their own domain name. Whether it is true or not, free web hosts don't give the same sense of stability to the consumer that your own domain name would. Plus, you will often experience a host of other problems.

This concept will apply itself to many other areas as well. Many software programs out there will help you automate your online business, but they do cost money. Many information products will help you build a better business, but they do cost money. Always look at everything you do online with this purpose in mind. Will the product, service, ad, web hosting, etc. cost you or make you money in the long run?

That's crazy! Who can afford that? Not ME!

That's why I was excited to find powerful business automation software that includes unlimited series of autoresponders for dirt cheap!

Don't Re-Invent The Wheel...Improve On It
By Terry Dean

Today, instead of just reading an article, I want you to think of this as more of a heart to heart talk from one marketer to another. I am going to share some of my thoughts and opinions of what I see going on in the Internet marketing community. So, forgive me if it appears that at times I am rambling on throughout today's issue.

I know that what I am going to say is going to upset some of the people reading this, but it needs to be said anyway. Internet Marketers "on average" show a serious lack of understanding of basic marketing knowledge and principles.

They are constantly looking for the new thing...or they are in a quest for the "Holy Grail" of Web Site Traffic. Every week I hear of the new "Traffic Generator" that is out there. I have even participated in many of them only to come away disappointed in the results time after time.

I can tell you how to get more traffic than you will ever need in just a few words, "Give Away something extremely valuable to your market." Just find out what people want...come up with a low or no cost way of providing it...then give it to them. Then, you will have more traffic than you know what to do with!

This next statement may even shock you more than the one above...

"I personally have learned more about how to make money on the Internet from Marketing Books and Videos which didn't even deal with the Internet than from the hundreds of Internet marketing publications and products I have studied!"

Notice that in the past few weeks or months we have been covering a lot of business principles such as Unique Selling Positions, Joint Ventures, Strategy Development, and more. These are weapons that have been taught for decades...but we just have to learn how to apply them to the internet.

Just because we have found a new marketing medium does not mean we need to lay aside time tested business strategies for success. What Jay Abraham, Gary Halbert, Ted Nicholas, and others have taught us throughout the last few decades still works today.

As a matter of fact, the book "Scientific Advertising" was written in the early part of this century by Claude Hopkins. It is a classic on developing advertising that works no matter what medium is being used.

This "Old" Book has been credited as being a factor in the success of some of the top marketing minds of our time. Many of which actually claim to have read the book 34 times or more!

During the past few weeks, I have spoken with several people who use the Internet for one purpose...Testing. Using the Internet, they can test their products and promotion quicker and cheaper than they ever could have done in any other format.

When it comes time to roll out though, they go to direct mail. They have figured out a system that works for them that they know how and enjoy using.

Even if you will never do a direct mail promotion, does that mean that you can't learn from what the most successful direct mailers have been teaching us about direct marketing for decades?

Instead of trying to Re-Invent the Marketing Wheel...let's become people who actually improve on it using the leveraging abilities of the Internet to maximize our time and effectiveness.

Below are 3 examples of business principles that are true irregardless of whether you sell online, by direct mail, in magazines, on TV, or just locally. After the principle, we will cover some ways you can apply these techniques to Internet Marketing and even improve them online.

1) Unique Selling Position

Every business that wants to become successful has to have a Unique Selling Position. There has to be something that sets them apart from every other business in their industry. What makes your web site different from all of the other ones out there? Is it just a copy? If you don't figure out a way to make it better than and different from the average site out there, you are just sinking time and money into a losing proposition.

How does the Internet give us an unfair advantage over marketers of earlier times? It's simple. We can actually go to a search engine. Type in keywords and see what the competition is doing! You can visit 20 different competitors this evening and mark down in a notebook ideas to set your business apart from all of the others out there. This could have never been done so quickly and easily without the power of the Internet.

2) Targeting Your Market and Market Research.

The most powerful feature of the Internet is doing market research. For free, you can visit newsgroups and message boards where your potential customers are hanging out and actually interact with them by asking questions, taking notes, and find out exactly what they are looking for.

The real key to copywriting is finding out what people's hot buttons are. If you had to use the old methods of direct mail to do so, it may have cost you ten thousand to a million dollars to find out how to write a killer ad for your market. Now, you can spend a week or two online and get the exact same result for Free.

3) Joint Ventures

Jay Abraham and Mike Enlow both call Joint Ventures "the fastest, easiest way on earth to make a fortune...and if I had to choose from one single way to make money, this is it." Yet, it isn't even mentioned in many Internet marketing circles.

The reason though that most Internet Marketers could never apply this technique is that they haven't done the two steps above - Develop a USP and research their market. Both of those aspects are the building blocks to setting yourself up as a potential joint venture partner.

During the coming weeks and months we have planned to introduce to the Internet market information products through joint ventures which will revolutionize the ways you think about your online business. Many of these products may even be classics in developing real marketing strategies.

So many Internet marketers need to learn how they can make absolutely any business successful if they use the right marketing techniques...not just try to gamble on the new Internet traffic tool.

Give First and Prove Your Worth
By Terry Dean

Everybody is looking for "Insider Secrets" and "Secret Weapons" to make their internet business grow to unimaginable new heights. Well, you came to the right place today because I am about to give to you the most powerful information you will ever receive in your online career.

At first, it may not seem like much, but I want you to put it to the test. It will push your sales right into orbit where they belong in your business. The most powerful internet "Secret" that I know of is...

"Give First and Prove Your Worth..."

Give something away...And make it something of value. Don't let it be just some junk you have laying around or a rehash of something that has been played to death over and over again.

Go with me for a moment and lets take a trip around the world (on the Internet of course). Go to one of the major search engines and visit sites relating to your industry.

What do you see at most of them. I'll will venture to say that probably 90% - 95% fall into one of these three categories below:

1) A Corporate Site that gives you information about the company, it's location, and it's products. These sites are obviously institutional advertising and are not making money online (around 50% of the sites).

2) Next on the list are those sites which just link to a bunch of affiliate programs. I don't have a single thing to say against any affiliate program, but if you don't have a congruent theme and purpose to your site, then it just won't fit the bill of successful sites (around 30% of sites seem to fall in this category).

3) A better choice, but definitely not the best, would be the a site which does have a product (or products) which fits a theme and has a decently well done sales letter full of benefits to go with it. These sites can and are making money online, but they never seem to break through the invisible ceiling on their profits and become the mega-success stories online (around 20% of sites fall into this category).

When you really take a look at the sites which are flooding their bank accounts with new cash, you will find one common theme which flows through all of them regardless of their business or industry online...

They are giving first, and proving their worth.

What can you give away in your business that is valuable to your prospects, but is low cost to you? In this area, I LOVE the internet. With the internet, we can create turn-key NO cost products or turn-key programs on our web site which have a very HIGH value, but have little or no cost for us to give them away.

I want to give you some ideas below on items you can give away, but I don't want you to limit your thinking to just what I have listed. Open your mind and begin thinking outside the box.

Go to the store and buy a notebook right now if you don't have one and mark it for ideas. Write on the first page, "My Prospects Want..."

Then, every time you come up with something they want, start looking around the net and thinking of ways you can give it to them. Whenever you come up with an idea no matter how farfetched it may be, write it down. Then, as time passes, keep looking over it and more ideas will flow and you will figure out a way to do some of the ideas you have written.

To get you started with ideas and possibly with solutions, I want to give you a couple of the ways web sites are profiting right now from the "Give First..." principle:

1. Ezines - Many people have adopted the Opt-In Email List plan for giving first. This is one of my favorite methods which I have been recommending to people for the last year (I also wrote the course on it).

The strength behind owning your own Opt-In List is that you can keep in constant contact with your prospects and customers. The problem with it is that way too many individuals are now just producing me-too ezines that don't contain good quality information for the readers. They are just rehashes of other people's information or just a sales presentation without any good solid information.

How can you produce original content without being a writer?

There is always a way...How about:

  • Researching new tools in your business (Software, sites, etc.)
  • Doing interviews with Experts in your industry.
  • Simply answer questions which come in.
  • Providing a Tip of the Day or Tip of the Week Idea.
What else can you come up with?

2. Free Information - The Internet is the "Information Superhighway." The best way to introduce yourself to your prospects is through providing Free information on your web site. No matter what you are selling: be it nutrition products, cleaning products, business products, etc., you can find information or create information to provide with it.

For example, my FREE Electronic Book which is jam packed with internet money making ideas is being downloaded constantly. As a matter of fact, I keep two download sites for it because it has been receiving up to 827 downloads in one hour. The title of it is "101 High Profit Businesses You Can Start On The Internet With Little or NO Money!" and it is full of quality information.

Think about how you could do something just like this in your industry. I also want to note that you can offer this book on your site as well (it makes a great incentive for people to subscribe to your newsletter or to recommend others to your web site). All you would have to do is link directly to one of the download sites. Your visitors never even have to leave your site!

Download Site
http://www.bizpromo.com/101.exe

3. CGI Programs - There are dozens of CGI Programs out there which you can use on your site to provide something free to give to your visitors. Just take glance through the hundreds of useful scripts you can find at
http://www.cgi-resources.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/

Give First to Prove Your Worth...

No matter what type of Free product or service you decide to provide, you need to come up with something unique for your industry. What is it that people want or need that you can provide for a very low cost or at no cost?

Keep a notebook and come up with creative solutions. Once you start giving upfront to your prospects, watch your traffic and sales soar as people start seeing just how much your business is really worth to them. Once you have proven your worth to them, they won't have any reservations ordering from you...

How to Produce a Guaranteed Full-Time Monthly Income On the Internet No Matter What Business You Are In
By Terry Dean

Today, I decided to spill the beans and reveal to you exactly what I do step-by-step to make money online. If you pay careful attention, this could quite easily be the most important article that you will ever read in your online career.

I could go into a complicated discussion of what this person does or what that person does...There are a lot of little twists people do in the marketing to make it more effective. You should never stop learning...BUT what I am going to show you today is a SIMPLE system everybody who I know that is making money online is following!

If you would like to learn my simple 3 step formula for creating wealth online...Keep Reading:

1.) Generate Traffic for Your Business

You have to get your business exposed first. This is also the biggest question I am constantly asked by people, "How do I get more traffic to my site?"

The secret to getting traffic is actually so simple most people miss it. If you want traffic at your website, Give people a reason to come to your website! What do you give to them once they get there?

The best thing of all is give them FREE CONTENT...I am not talking about just free reports either, though that is a very good start. Find something in your industry that everyone needs online (Free SE submissions, FREE Listing of Ezines, FREE Training Course Online, etc.). Pick a HOT idea that is going to get people to link to you.

If you spend enough time at forums and talking with people in your industry, you will find a HOT need everyone has that you can offer to them for free at your site. Once you have something like this, your traffic counter will go through the roof!

Plus, you can use other Traffic Plug-ins such as:

  • Free Classified Sites
  • Postcard Sites
  • Magazine Sites
  • Message Boards
  • Chat Rooms
  • etc.
2. Start Your Own Opt-In Mailing List.

Bulk email is out...Opt-In is in. The most effective sales tool ever created on the internet is email. The problem has been that many individuals have been using it to Spam everyone online with their sales messages! This causes instant countermeasures by those Spammed, and the Spammers quickly find themselves without email addresses or websites to conduct business online.

Opt-In email is the wave of the future online. The easiest way to do that is through your own ezine. If you don't have one now, YOU are going to have an Ezine in the future internet market if you want to stay competitive. The easiest way to set one up is to use Listbot at http://www.listbot.com who will give you one absolutely free!

You can offer your ezine monthly, weekly, or even daily...whichever one is best for you. If you can't write your own articles, there are dozens of people who will let you use theirs for free. Just ask! It is so simple to run your ezine, and so profitable, you have NO excuse for not doing so if you are a serious internet businessperson.

3. Use the Seven Profit Streams of Every Opt-In List.

Your Opt-In Mailing list have 7 Profit streams...In this short space I am going to mention just 2 of them which can produce a GUARANTEED residual monthly income for you no matter what type of business you are in.

The first Monthly profit stream from your ezine is your own products or services...Every month you can offer a specialoffer on a NEW product or service OR offer a special bonus to go along with the product.

Whereas bulk email has horrible response rates, Opt-In email with your subscribers has been known to produce response rates of 1% to 10%! Think about it.

If you have a $97 product which you offering to a list of only 2,000 people, and pull in a response rate of 1%, you would have a gross income of $1940! If you received a 2% response rate, you would have made $3880! PLUS, You can do this every MONTH or even every week!

What if your list had 50,000 members on it? I know of mailing lists online that have 600,000 or more members on them. Only having 2,000 subscribers is honestly a pretty small list and can be built in around 2 - 3 months even without much of an advertising budget.

The second profit stream from your ezine is classified advertising. As your list grows, you are going to want to give people the opportunity to purchase classified advertising space. If you selling ads for $20 a week and sell 10 ads per week, you would be making $800 a month in classified advertising. This isn't a big sum of money, BUT it is a nice residual income to have coming in every month.

Now, think about when you put the other profit streams to work for you in your Opt-In list...What will happen then?

The Internet Marketer's Lifestyle
By Terry Dean

It's not the money. It's the lifestyle.

That's right. It isn't the money that motivates many people to turn to a home based business or to start their own Internet business.

Sure the money is good...very good.

The lifestyle is better.

It provides you with a freedom that you could never have with a 9 to 5 job. When you work for someone else, they tell you:

  • When to get up and come to work
  • Where you can live (it isn't practical to live 100 miles away)
  • How often you can vacation
  • How much you can earn each year
When you work in your own online business, you are in charge of those things.

You decide when you want to work. One of my online associates chooses to work around midnight to 6 (I think he's crazy personally). I choose to work early.

You choose where you want to live. If you want to live out in the country fine. If you want to live on the beach, that's OK. If you want to live in Australia, then that's perfect for an Internet business. It's up to you.

You choose the vacation times you want. Some people prefer to take several weeks off at a time while others take weekend vacations almost every week.

As an Internet business, you are not limited to a specific income level. If you learn how to automate and outsource some of the work, you can build any level of income you want.

We made a decision this month. We moved from a town of 35,000 people out to a smaller town a little further out with less than 1,000 people. We actually didn't move too far (only about 15 miles or 20 minutes) and we are keeping our address at the Post Office in Richmond.

The difference is in the environment. We had neighbors around 35 feet from our house on both sides in Richmond.

Now, you can only see one house off in the distance. The closest neighbor is a cow named "Oscar" who hangs out close to our fence (it is the neighbor's cow, not ours). My two dogs have a good old time barking at it tryingto get it to play with them.

For myself, this is the perfect environment. It is quiet and peaceful so I can work on writing (which is what I enjoy most in the business). My wife loves horses so we may purchase a couple of horses here in the future.

The point is that it is up to us.

The whole time we have been moving out here our automatic Internet machine kept right on working.

We have been so busy it is hard to imagine, but sales kept coming in. There are boxes piled everywhere, but my Internet sites just kept bringing in the orders.

It's been hectic answering the email and shipping out the orders, but they have all been done on time (and it only takes a few hours to do them).

There are periods of time where I only work a couple hours a day (now is one of them because of the moving) and other times I choose to work 12-hour days when setting up a new project.

Yes, I said "work." This is a business and it will require youto work if you want to succeed. The key is that you choose what work level you want and you can automate much of the rest.

The orders we are currently receiving have been occurring even though I have spent ZERO promotion time the past couple of weeks. I just haven’t had time to do any marketing, but money keeps coming in.

For our business, the two best auto-pilot order producingtechniques currently taking place are:

1. Articles and Free eBooks

These are our primary viral marketing methods. There are dozens upon dozens of articles available in our free article section at: http://www.bizpromo.com/free

I have promoted the fact widely that any ezine publisher or web site can use them for content as long as they keep my contact information in tact at the bottom of each article.

So, guess what...They do publish them. I have thousands of links to my site through these articles being published all over the web. Every week we have a barrage of additional traffic as another large ezine publishes one of them.

It is a win-win situation for both of us. My site receives additional traffic and sales while the publisher (web site or ezine) has additional content to provide to their audience.

Submitting articles to ezines and large content web sites is one of the best free advertising methods still available on thenet (forget posting FFA Links and free classified ads).

Do you have any free content out there working for you?

2. Affiliates

The second strategy we have built is our affiliate program. I haven't had time to promote myself, but my affiliate members have kept right on promoting.

They can become an almost automatic stream of income for your product (I say almost because it is essential that you spend time supporting them).

There really is no excuse for you to not have your own affiliate program if you are in control of your own product.

Affiliate software costs $200 or less.

If you hate technology and don't even want to touch it, then there are also numerous companies that you can use to do the affiliate tracking for you:

http://www.linkshare.com
http://www.cj.com
http://www.clicktrade.com
http://www.myaffiliateprogram.com

It takes a little work to build up your affiliate network and to train them how to sell your program, but it is more than worth it. Once they have been setup and trained, they can constantly and consistently produce sales for you in years to come.

Pay high commissions. Your affiliates are producing sales for you that you would have never had. It is almost like receiving free money. Who cares if you have to pay them $50 to get $40 free money in your pocket.

Having an affiliate program firmly established in place will help you to get to the place where you can have the kind of Internet lifestyle you choose.
