Are You Going to be a Quitter?

This should be a required question for all budding entrepreneurs.

Are you going to Quit if you don't succeed at first? 

If we remove all of the Internet Hype you hear every day and reveal to you the cold hard facts about success online, can you handle it? 

I talk to hundreds of people every week by email and I keep finding a common thread. The ones who are the most successful entrepreneurs are the ones who failed the most times but refused to quit.

As a matter of fact, I have yet to meet anyone who has told me every ad they placed worked and that every time they tried something it made money. With as many people as I deal with, you would expect that I would have met that individual by now. It hasn't happened yet.

Everyone has their failures. Everyone has their ads that didn't work. Everyone had their product that bombed. Everyone had their mistakes.

Another aspect that has held true though is that those who refused to quit were the ones who were now making money from their businesses.

If they started a business...and then took a systematic approach to finding out what worked for their business, it didn't matter how many times they failed. They would eventually find out what worked.

Notice that I said the successful ones were "systematic" in their approach to their business though. 

Many marketers are taking a "random" approach to their Internet businesses. They are searching for anything that might all of sudden catapult them to Internet success. 

They say to everyone around them, "Maybe this company might just be it, or maybe this type of ad might work, or maybe I am just in the wrong business."

If you acting like a "random" marketer, you are definitely cruising down the road of failure. 

Successful marketers don't act randomly. They follow a plan. They test the ads. They track the ads. They compare the ads. They know exactly how much money was made with every penny they spend.

You cannot jump from one ad type to another and keep looking for the "magic bullet" if you want to create the business you dream of on the Internet.

Don't be an advertising quitter. Select a type of Internet advertising and keep working it and tested it until you make it successful for you. If you have a nice sized ad budget, you might select two types of ads to try, but never do more than this at one time.

Below I am going to give you 5 types of Internet Advertising that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt can work for you if you apply yourself to them. 

Instead of randomly jumping here and there trying to find out how to find success, select ONE of these techniques and start applying yourself to it until it starts working for you.

Test different ads with it. Test different places to advertise with it. Test different web pages to bring your prospects to. Test different follow-up systems on your prospects. Consider having a professional write your ad for you.

Above all though, don't quit!

Look at each of these proven Internet marketing techniques and decide which one is right for you, your business, and your budget. Then, start testing it...and don't ever quit using it.

1. Classified Ads in Ezines

This is a method that has helped many small businesses start building online. Because of the quick lead time and the low cost of placing these types of ads, it is a great choice for those who have a small budget. 

You can start off by advertising in a couple of targeted ezines for your market that are known to be proven winners. Ask some people in message boards or newsgroups which ezines they have advertised in and made money from.

Use a systematic approach though. Create 2 or 3 good classified ads and try each of them in the ezine one after another and see which one pulls in the most leads for you.

Use an automated follow-up system where you can get several autoresponders and have the leads each going to a separate autoresponder. 

Track which one works the best for you. If one of the ads shows up as extremely profitable, then keep running it in that ezine and add 3 - 5 more ezines to your advertising with that same ad. Test them each with separate autoresponders. Never stop tracking your ads.

If none of the ads produces a profitable result for you, try them in a different ezine which has been recommended to you by others. Or try having a classified ad written for you by a professional ad writer.

Don't consider quitting an option.

Also, consider in all of these advertising methods, your web site and/or follow-up system need to be created with as much motivating ad copy as possible. Most people will need to purchase and study some good books on ad copy to figure out how to write a letter that can sell.

2. Networking Online

If you have absolutely NO money at all, you may want to consider networking your way to success online. Simply start participating in discussions online by asking questions and posting helpful answers to other people's questions.

This can be done in discussion groups, newsgroups, or mailing lists. To find the right groups to participate in, create several keywords you would use to find your type of business, and use these three search engines:

For Discussion Groups, use http://www.forumone.com
For Newsgroups, use http://www.dejanews.com 
For Mailing Lists, use http://www.liszt.com 

Once you have found 5 - 10 active groups on your subject, start participating. Note: I did not say advertise. Most of these groups have very strict policies regarding advertising.

You can discuss, but you can't advertise. 

Set up a daily system where you visit all of your selected groups and make it a practice to post to at least a couple of the groups each day. Become a participant that people recognize there.

At the same time, include a link to a page on your site where people reading your message can read more about your products or services. 

The way to best track your results would be to set up separate sales pages on your site for each group you participate in. For example: you may have 10 pages on your site selling the same product...but you know which group you mentioned it in. Then, when you check your web site stats, you can know where the people are coming from.

The advantage of marketing this way is that you won't be spending any money...the disadvantage is that there really isn't any way to roll out a major marketing campaign when you find a winner.

3. Banner Advertising

If you can get banner advertising to work for your product or service, then you might have just found the largest cash flow online.

Once you have a banner advertising campaign that is making money for you, it is very easy to expand it out with thousands of targeted sites which are available with banner advertising space. This is the most plenteous type of advertising available so it is the easiest one to roll out major campaigns on once you find the winning combination.

The problem is that banner advertising can often be the most difficult form of advertising to create a successful campaign in. The average click-through rate on banner ads is 1/2 a percent...which means you get one click through for every 200 impressions.

To run your banner campaign, create 3 - 5 different banners and start placing them in small numbers. 

A cheap way to test at first is to join one or more of the free banner exchanges and try out your banners for free at first. Then, once you found a working banner, you can start paying for impressions of it.

Have each of your banners link to a specific page on your site which is selling ONE specific product. Don't allow your prospects to get confused when they come to your site. Make it a simple choice for them to make which you can track on your site.

Then, once you find a banner which is making money for you, roll it out by buying larger numbers of impressions or finding more sites to advertise it on.

4. Press Releases 

This is probably the most powerful traffic builder available if you have a strong Unique Web Position for your site.

If you stand out and your site or product is worthy of media attention, then this is an awesome method to start creating a traffic jam at your site.

A good tool to use in promoting your site through free press is the Gebbie all-in-one media directory which lists all of the contact information of the media. A free sample which will enable you to get started can be obtained by visiting this address.

Once you have the directory or the sample, you can start studying (Gebbie has some info on this as well) how to write effective press releases. 

Just because your first press release may not be published, don't let that bother you. Try again. Learn more about what they want. Then, do it again.

You can receive more traffic from having your web site published in a magazine, newspaper, radio, or TV broadcast than hundreds of ads you place for yourself. 

So, if you decide Free Press will work for your unique product or service, don't quit!

5. Offline Ads 

Too many times when advertising out web sites we forget about how effective off-line advertising can be. Placing an ad in a card deck or magazine is a great way to get very targeted visitors to your site who are ready to spend money.

Many of the people who visit you from other web sites are just lookers...and never really intend to purchase anything from you. The bulk of the people who visit you from offline advertising are much more ready to spend money if you provide the benefits they need.

Leads produced this way are much more expensive though...costing between 50 cents to $10.00 apiece on average. So, you had better have that killer ad copy ready to close them when they get to your site.

A good way to save money when advertising is to use postcard decks and sell off ads on the postcard you purchase. This way you can make back all of your money and essentially get your ad to run for FREE. What better way to test than with free advertising?

When using this type of advertising, I recommend taking them to what I call a "lead generation" page. Basically, what you do on this type of page is present a few benefits to them and ask them to leave their contact info such as name, email, and mailing address for more information. Then, you can start a follow-up system both online and by direct mail to them for maximum effectiveness.

Don't waste any of these higher priced and usually higher qualified leads.

* Don't Quit *

No matter which advertising method you choose, make a decision to stick to it until you have it working for you. 

The key to any successful business is that you keep working on it until you have it working for you.

Building An Internet Empire One Day At a Time

Have you ever seen a new Internet marketer in real life trying to figure out what they should do first online?

They look kind of like a deer staring into the headlights of a truck barreling down on it. There is that look of wonder about what is supposed to happen next.

They were told that the Internet is full of possibilities and is a Goldmine for the miners who are rushing to take advantage of the gold in the hills. They want in on the action, but they can't seem to figure out a simple and basic game plan for getting started.

Helping these kinds of people get started online has been one of the primary goals in our business. To many would be Internet marketers, the Internet is full of possibilities, but precious little specific information to getting started.

So, below I am going to give you a 5 step plan for advertising your web site which you should follow every single day.

Never relax your advertising. Approximately 80% of your Internet marketing business should consist of advertising or learning new ways to advertise.

Sure, there are hundreds of other ways you could advertise your site and products, but these five are the most important ones to get started with. I could take any web site which I have designed and make it successful using ONLY these five techniques.

Consider them the 5 Advertising Habits of a Successful Internet Marketer...

1. Place an Ezine Ad.

The best type of paid advertising is ezine ads. So, part of my "prescription" for success is to place an ad in ezines at least 2 times a week if not more (if you want to build your business quicker, place an ad in a different ezine every day of the week).

Free advertising can be very powerful, but never neglect using the best type of advertising available online.

2. Participate in Discussion Groups.

Go to http://www.forumone.com right now and pick out ten to twenty discussion groups which relate to what you are selling. Then, bookmark them in your favorite places and begin to visit them every day.

Make it a practice to post to at least one of them every day. Don't just post an ad either. Participate in the discussion. Give and it will be given back to you.

3. Submit Your Site to One Major Search Engine.

Pick out some keywords for your web site and start looking at the pages which come up first on one of the major search engines. Look at the title, keywords, and text of the top sites. Then, create a similar mirror page which you can submit to that search engine.

Most visitors begin their web surfing at one of the major search engines. Why not let them start off at your site?

4. Make One New Contact a Day.

Send a personal email to a web site owner or ezine publisher asking to trade links or ads. Even better, ask them to do some type of Joint Venture or endorsement of each other. Never begin to think that the Internet is just a bunch of machines and that you push this button and that button to succeed.

Interact with real people and trade ads, resources, products, etc.

5. Do Something in the "Real World."

Don't forget offline advertising. Have some business cards printed up which you can hand out to people you come in contact with.

Send a letter to the editor in a magazine or newspaper. Send out a press release to your local newspaper, radio station, or a magazine in your industry. Just get started doing something offline to integrate in with your online marketing strategy.

There is my prescription for the beginning Internet marketer. Take it every day and begin to watch your little seedling of an Internet empire begin to grow.

Developing the Right Attitude For Making Money Online

Do you really want to make money online? Do you want to develop a business which can make money for you 24 hours a day 7 days a week almost automatically?

I am sure you do...Or else you wouldn't be reading this ezine right this minute. I have good news...and bad news for those of you desire this for yourself.

The Good News is...YES, you can do it. Many others have created full-time incomes while only working part-time online. It is within your grasp. Plus, many of them have started with little or no money!

The Bad News is...Many of you will need a change of attitude before you will be able to reach your goals.

That's right...Even with the right information and the right foundation, many people have still failed in their online ventures just because they did not develop the right attitude. An old statement that comes to mind right now for me is "Your Attitude determines your Altitude."

Your success in life cannot bypass your attitude about life. If your mindset is that you are poor and always will be poor, it will show itself in anything you do. No matter what you do, your results will be poor in your business.

Having a positive mentality about yourself and about your business is a part of this right attitude, but that is not what I want to focus on in this section. I want to focus on your reasons and vision for your business.

If your vision for your business is to just make enough money for a little extra income or to just produce a full-time income for yourself, you will be severely limiting your results. If that is you, you need a change of attitude.

Those who are the most successful people in business are the ones who LOOK for problems and develop solutions to them. They have a vision which is bigger than just to make a little money. They have a vision to solve problems for others.

YES, you need to learn about Internet Marketing Techniques and about how to write killer ad copy. Yes, you need to know how to produce sales, BUT what is it that you are selling?

Are you selling just another product OR are you selling a SOLUTION to people's problems. Are you just in business to make a little money or do you honestly care about helping other people? The ones who become the most successful in their business are the ones who find a NEED and fill it. They develop the answer that people need.

This factor is true and can be applied no matter what type of business you are in. For example, if you run a network marketing site, are you just trying to hype people up in your program OR are you becoming a source for information on how they can succeed through this method of distribution.

LOOK for problems...

People are frustrated with learning how to submit to search engines!

People are frustrated with learning how to use certain software!

People are frustrated with not being able to produce sales!

People are frustrated with health problems!

Look for these types of problems and frustrations and develop or find products which have the answers. In other words, DON'T just try to think of new ways to make money...Think of ways to solve more problems for more people! Then, the money will come once you learn the marketing side of the equation.

Too often we want someone to just hand us a completely developed business or a business-in-a-box. The truth of the matter though is that most of the time, these types of plans just don't exist. Any type of business you get involved in will require you to begin thinking of new ways to advance it if you want to be as successful as possible.

The Good News is that all you have to do is start changing your attitude over to being a problem solver. What problems are still out there in your specific market? What problems do people have when they order from your competition? What can you do to make your product or service a better answer to people's needs?

When you ask yourself these types of questions you are often taking the first step to success. You are recognizing the problem. Now, with the right attitude, you can start looking for the solution. You have the question. Now, Apply the thinking, brainstorming, research, and work to find the answer.

Just Doin' It: Tales of a 'Mediocre Entrepreneur'

Are you dissatisfied with the amount of money you're making online, and feel nearly powerless to change it? Are you frustrated with the snail's pace that your Internet business seems to take? Are you sick and tired of trying to "find the right time" to release that dream product you've been sitting on for months?

Chances are, you're a "mediocre entrepreneur."

A mediocre entrepreneur is nothing less than a natural procrastinator -- a 10-foot hurdle in the leap to self-made success. Did any of the above criteria describe you? Do you often find yourself in that kind of mentality or engulfed in those kinds of situations? If the answer to either of those questions is "yes," your business needs a post-mortem heart-start ASAP!

How do you know if you have the dreaded "mediocrity" syndrome? When you find yourself continually obsessing over finding the "right time" to start an important project, putting off certain tasks due to estimated lack of time or funds or other equally as hindering tasks, you're becoming a threat to your business. The biggest problem that any self-run business can encounter IS the self.

The only way to get over the "can't get right" blues is to pick yourself up and JUST DO IT. Don't worry that you may not have the money to support a pending project. If you're serious enough about making it work, you'll find the funds. Don't stress yourself out over finding the right time to do something. There never IS a "wrong time" unless YOU make it.

Use the power of YOU to start your ascent to profit and success. Don't ever let anyone talk you down, discourage you, or make you feel inadequate. Conquer your goals and shoot down failure by taking circumstance by the throat in a determined death-grip. NOTHING can stop you unless you let it. Never wait for the ideal circumstance -- learn to MAKE IT perfect enough to work for YOU.

Know Why Your Business is Failing?? I Do ...

The following article can honestly mean the difference between a home business that's a shining success and one that's a miserable failure. Are you going to take this material, study it, and USE IT ... or are you going to become a statistic and let it slip through your fingers?

The concept I'm talking about is one I call "progressive promotion." If you're not using this simple formula, then you're already headed for disaster. Pick your business up now and start using progressive promotion in your every day routine. You'll begin to see results immediately!

"Okay, so how do I pull this off," you ask?
It's as easy as 1-2-3 (4!). Read and learn:
 

1. CHECK YOUR PROGRESS

What promotional methods have you been using to date? Have you been tracking your results, or just kind of letting things go on their own? Check your progress first thing when you log on every day. How is that ad campaign going that you started last week? How is that new banner pulling? What about that special mailing that you sent off yesterday?

The first and most important step in checking and keeping up with your progress is to track your ads. And, in order to track your progress as effectively as possible, you'll need a quality site tracker. A free one that I use and recommend is called HitBox Tracker at http://hitbox.com
 

2. MAKE MORE PROGRESS! After you've determined your best ads and advertising sources, this step becomes much easier. All you'll need to do is continue to use the proven methods of promotion that are getting you the best results, AND continue using the ads that are pulling in the best responses. But don't stop there!

Every so often, you'll need to create NEW and ORIGINAL methods of promoting your business, ezine, or website. Ad responses and sales results are bound to decrease at some point. This is when you need to be ready with an immediate plan of action to avoid losing precious dollars.

3. PLAN YOUR PROGRESS

When you're finished working for the day, TURN OFF your computer (was that a dirty word?), and plan for tomorrow. Turning off the PC gives your mind a break, and allows you to actually formulate new ideas and solidify the tasks you want to accomplish tomorrow.

Tons of time is wasted by "wingin' it," "shooting from the hip," or whatever you want to call it. It all boils down to a loss of productivity by lack of a real plan. Sure, you can lie in bed at night and list the dozens of "little things" you need to do tomorrow, but a REAL plan is one you actually remember -- and put on paper to gauge your progress and avoid time-wasting.

Don't let your business run you. Reign in that wild horse with effective, solid, time management techniques. 4. FOLLOW YOUR PROGRESS

All this involves is repeating the 3-step process above. After you've created your plan of action for your next day's work, FOLLOW IT. As soon as you log on and check your progress, start making MORE progress by following your plan of action to the letter. Not only will this get you into more of a routine, you'll feel more organized and have a stronger sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.

If you follow the four-step plan above CONSISTENTLY, you'll have nowhere to go but up. It may seem hard and intimidating at first, but what do I always tell you about those kinds of things?? Don't talk about it ... BE about it! Get up off your duff and make things happen.

Secret of Happiness in Life and Business

Let me begin by telling you a story...

In Indiana, there lives a woman who works 8 hour days 6 days a week at a local computer company. We will call her "Barbara" for the sake of this article.

Barbara dreads getting up in the morning. She dreads getting ready for work. She dreads driving to work. She dreads clocking in. She absolutely hates her job.

She has a degree in computer science, but she can barely stand the sight of a computer anymore. Everything in her miserable life has become a drudgery to her. She can barely stand herself. The most important thing to her is that wonderful clock that chimes 5 p.m. when it is time for her to go home.

She rushes to her car...Drives as fast as the law allows home...and then immediately rushes into her house as fast as she can to the noise of overexcited door greeters. Both them and her have waited all day for this moment. Now, she can relax.

She sits down on the couch...collects up her pets (2 dogs and a cat) and gives each of them the attention she knows that they crave. She turns on "Animal Planet" on the television set and sits back breathing a sigh of relief that she lived through another day.

Every day this same process occurs. Sometimes she makes a stop by the library and gets a collection of books on "Dog Care" and on "Dog Training." On her day off (that wonderful day), her and her dogs go and spend the entire day at the local park. All of them wait all week for that wonderful event.

Because of the drudgery of her job and the desire she has to be constantly free from it, she decided to check into starting her own home business. Her friends sell Avon. As a matter of fact, one of them even makes enough money to do it full-time.

Barbara envies this woman...She gets up and works when she wants at her own business which she loves. She always seems to have a spring in her step and a smile on her face.

Then, one day her friend invites Barbara to join her. Excitement overflows inside of Barbara...She will be able to be in control of her own destiny. She can be in business for herself.

Barbara jumps at the chance...besides it is only $25 she says to herself..."What do I have to lose?" She is absolutely on fire with this new possibility...She can work for herself and make her own life.

She quickly begins to do everything her sponsor told her to do...She makes up lists of contacts. She begins contacting them all one by one. She does everything neccessary to get started as fast as possible.

Barbara begins making a little money...(It always starts out small in your own home business), but something is missing. She stills has her job...She has her new home business and is beginning to make a little income doing it...BUT she has even less time than before to do the things she loves.

Her day off came and went...She had meetings to attend in her new business. Her dogs stayed home staring longingly at their leashes wondering what was wrong. Barbara is making more money now, but is no more free time than ever before.

Now, after the excitement of her new business has worn off, that telephone is getting pretty heavy to use. It is getting pretty tiring to come home from work every day and have to work this second job...even though it is hers.

One day, her sponsor quits and she has no one to help her stay motivated anymore. That was the final straw. She can't do it any more. She goes back to the old routine feeling guilty that she "failed" in her home business venture.

Later on down the road, this same process occurs. She joins another home business "opportunity" only to later give up and quit because she just can't take it anymore. Dozens of times this happens. Every time she feels more guilty that she just doesn't have what it takes to make it in her own home business.

Every time this occurs she ends up exhausted on her couch. The funny thing is that the answer to her problem has been right under her nose all of the time. It happens to be staring up at her lovingly right this moment holding it's leash.

Her problem has been that she works a job she hates. She wants a way out and others are promising her a solution that just isn't suited to her. They make money doing it because they love it. She makes a little at it and quits because she can't stand that JOB either.

For them, it is a way of life and a passion. For her, it is just another JOB, yet with less starting salary. Her passion is for her pets, but she spends time trying to work up passion for other people's desires.

I will let you off the hook and tell you...Barbara's problem is that she is trying the WRONG home business for her. She should be starting a business where her passion is at. Instead, she just trys to imitate others who have completely different desires.

I wonder if that is your problem? If you can't wait to get off your job and get out to the golf course, but you are trying to sell health products, it won't work. If you only want to garden all of the time, but sell make-up, you are dead in the water before you ever start.

Take off the blinders...Take off the limitations. What do you love doing? What are your hobbies? What is it that you think about every time you get a spare moment?

That is the BUSINESS for you to be in...Don't tell me it can't be done. I will just tell you to figure out how to do it.

Let's go back to Barbara...What should she be doing? How about being a pet sitter, dog walker, pet day care, pet groomer, or dog trainer? She could write books on pet training, animal grooming, etc. That could be an information business. It could be a service business. Don't put limitations on yourself or others.

Don't tell me it can't be done! On TV, I just heard about a DOG BAKERY which only sells gourmet dog treats. They have over a million in sales and 20,000 mail order clients besides what they have in their little shop. If you love it, you will find a way once you make up your mind!

For many of you reading this, you may be in the wrong business. You are making money (Or you aren't making money it doesn't matter), but you just aren't happy. Well, now you have it. Somebody was finally willing to tell you the truth of the matter.

Find your LOVE and you will find success. Yes, it will be hard starting out. It is in any business you get started in. If your business is also your passion and your hobby though, YOU WILL make it through and won't quit when it gets hard, because you LOVE it.
