Do You Have the Right Stuff To Build An Internet Business

Today, I want to cover a subject that people online just don't talk about that often. We cover the technical aspect of marketing online, but we never seem to talk about the inner aspects of being in business for yourself.

The internet has been good to me. For the last two years, I have made my full-time living off of it and will continue to do so in the coming years. Constantly people ask me exactly what should they do to create a full-time income through online marketing. 

Well, I end up covering product creation, web site design, search engines, free advertising avenues, and off-line advertising. One thing that never seems to come up though is, "Do you really have the "Right Stuff" to build a successful Internet Business?"

Let me ask you, "Do you have the right stuff?"

Just knowing these principles about online marketing won't do you any good if you don't have the patience and persistence to put them to use in your business. It doesn't matter if you can tell me step-by-step in detail exactly how to get top positions in the search engines if you never make an effort to actually do it.

It doesn't really matter what you know...It only matters what information you use!

Here are three questions that I really need to ask every reader out there who desires to be successful in their own business: 

1) Are you Consistent in your Business?

Many internet marketing techniques strongly rely on you consistently following them. If you want to build a large ezine list, that means you have to spend time on it every day or every week. If you want to receive traffic at your site, you have to get out there and make deals every day...trade links, participate in online discussions, work on search engines, etc.

Are you really willing to put forth the necessary effort to build a successful business? Some people aren't. 

Are you? 

Let's just break down the notion once and for all that it is easy to just jump online and make a ton of money. It isn't. It takes planning. It takes work. It takes doing the right thing day after day. The internet is NOT "Get Rich Quick." If you are not willing to put forth some effort, then you don't need to be in this business.

2) Are you Persistent in your Business?

Do you have the patience it takes to build an internet business? Too many people have heard some of the wonder stories about almost instant success online and expected it to be like that for everyone. 

Let me put that notion to rest right here and now. Yes, some people have come online with just the right product at the right time and made it big rather quickly, but that in no way means they didn't take a lot of preparation to get to that point. AND it doesn't mean that this happens for everyone.

Most internet marketers start out online with a little traffic and a few sales, then they aggressively and constantly apply the necessary techniques to build their business every week. Most start out part-time and build their incomes up until they make more money from the Internet than from their regular jobs.

Most marketers actually fail at first in their businesses. You don't have to be upset if you have failed (In your opinion) at your business online so far...You are in good company. Most of us have...I know I did! You are only a failure if you give up and quit after you fail.

3) Are You Willing to Learn in your Business? 

Do you know it all already? Way too many people I have spoken with blamed their failures online on the market. They went away saying the internet just doesn't work. I am here to tell you it does work, if you know how to work with it. 

I sought out everything I could find on how to build a successful business online...You should see my shelves in my home office. You will see row after row of marketing information and internet information. Every step forward in my business has taken place because I learned another key that I could apply in my business. It didn't come all at one time. It came little by little.

If you already know it all then you are going to keep your business from growing. If you aren't willing to learn...then you will stay right where you are now! 

If you are not willing to be persistent, consistent, and learn in your business, then you DON'T have the "Right Stuff" to build a business. Many people don't, but I expect that since you are reading this, you are one of the people who does...

If so, I want you to understand that Rome wasn't built in a day, and your web site probably won't be either. Apply these characteristics to your business and step by step you will start moving to the top.

Home-Based Businesses: The TRUTH Behind the Lies

Part of the "American Dream" is to be able to work from home. People want to have freedom and flexibility in their schedules, have more time with family, become financially independent, or maybe have the option of working at home due to health problems. But, whatever the individual reason, it all boils down to the simple satisfaction of taking control of your life. That's when people start looking for that ideal job or business from home. 

However, there's something terribly wrong with this decision. 

A lot of people go into this misinformed. Most people don't know how to go about finding a job from home, nor do they don't realize the amount of commitment involved and the amount of time that it will take to build a successful home business. Truth is, they really aren't prepared for the "home business world." You need to be prepared to handle your business, and to know what lies, scams, and false claims to be aware of. 

THE LIES 

A lot of people don't realize that it takes time, patience, commitment, and discipline to create a successful and profitable business from home. People tend to go into a home business thinking that it's going to be so much easier and less time- consuming than a conventional job. 

They want to have the freedom to spend more quality time with family, and not have a boss constantly over their shoulders. Unfortunately, most are truly looking for the "free-and-easy," and are severely disappointed to find that a home business often takes more time, money, and involvement than their regular 9-to-5! 

Then, they may become discouraged and frustrated, because they feel that working from home isn't "all it's cracked up to be." After they get over the initial disappointment and frustration, they begin to realize that their business is finally starting to take off. 

But, "taking off" doesn't necessarily mean that they're starting to achieve the financial independence and freedom that they'd hoped for. "Taking off" just means that they're finally beginning to see some progress -- no matter how small. 

THE TRUTH 

Starting a home business is very similar to a regular job, only you end up doing twice as much work, for about half as much pay. You're doing the very same things that you'd be doing in a conventional job, only the "boss," (or sponsor), is usually on the other side of the world, and you don't have the security of hourly pay. 

When people first start out in home employment, 99% of the time, they're still actually working "under" someone else, in their "downline," or as a referral. This is an excellent way to get started and learn the basics of Internet home business and how it works, but it's not a good way to achieve the goals that got you into this business! 

As an "Associate" or "Reseller" of other people's merchandise, you make much less money as you're getting paid percentage commissions instead of by the hour. So, in essence, your "freedom" is still virtually non-existent, and your "financial independence" is quickly turning into financial debt! The way to make a living with a home business is NOT to limit yourself to working FOR anyone, or UNDER anyone. 

Whenever there's anyone that you have to report to for your paychecks, or that gets money or bonuses when YOU make sales, warning bells should go off in your head! This is just another dead-end job. Why work twice as hard to get paid half as much? And, the bad thing about that is, you're actually still working to put money in someone else's pocket! 

TAKE ACTION 

The key to making a living on the Internet is to get your own products. Don't sell for anyone else -- make money for YOU. You get the freedom and flexibility to set your own prices, choose how to market your products, and a lot of other things that you weren't able to do before. You can have people working for YOU! 

This has become increasingly easy to do on the Internet. Now, you can simply purchase quality products, modify them to suit your needs, and sell them for profit! Never has making honest money been simpler or faster. 

Now, I didn't say that doing business this way was fast OR easy. I only said that it was much faster and easier than doing in the old way, but it still takes some effort on your part. Only this time, you'll have the satisfaction of working for YOU, and keeping all of your profit. :-) 

So, go ahead and give it a try. Stop wasting time and money on these rip-off programs that statistics show will fail. What have you got to lose? Do it for YOU.

Part 1: Getting Started

There are a lot of things you should take into consideration when choosing a home business that’s going to make YOU happy and pay the bills, or give you that extra income you need. If you follow this plan I’ve laid out for you, you should have no problem at all finding a business to suit your needs.

Even if you already are involved in a home business, you can take these seven easy steps to find out if it’s going to be a success, or a flop.

1. Start With What You Know.

Unless you want to be putting in hours or even days of your time doing research on the ins and outs of the business you choose, you more than likely will want to start with a business that you know a little bit about.

I’m not talking about being an expert in whatever it is that you choose, but at least know enough about it to cover the basics. If you don't, you'll end up having to spend more time learning how your business works, and you'll get to spend less time on what motivated you to start your own business in the first place -- making money!

2. Be Sure to Choose an Interesting Field.

This is important! Make sure you’re interested in the type of business that you’re considering. If you love the Internet, then you’ll want to choose something that will allow you to spend a lot of your time surfing the 'Net, and making money doing it.

That doesn’t necessarily mean getting paid directly for surfing the 'Net, but could be searching for new ways to promote your business. You’ll profit from it in the long run. (With the new "Get-Paid-to-Surf-the-Net" craze that everyone is talking about, you can only so much per month doing it anyway, which is usually less than $100. But, you may want to use that to fund your promotional efforts. So, who knows? It just may be worth it.)

Also, try to get a good working knowledge of your product or service that you’ll be promoting. If you don’t believe in the benefits of your product, neither will your prospect. Y’know, people can usually tell the difference when someone is really enthused about whatever they’re selling ... and when they’re just doing it to make a quick dollar. If you give off that second vibe, your business will never take off.
 

3. Is Your Business Easy to Understand?

Will you be able to make referral bonuses from the people that sign up from your website? If so, make sure the sign-up process is a quick and easy one. If it took you 45 minutes to fill out the online application, chances are, it’s not as quick and easy as it needs to be.

When people are ready to start an online business, that usually means that they’ve already researched the company, contemplated the benefits, and are prepared to start NOW. Don’t make them wait by choosing a business with a clunky sign-up process.

Also, after they do sign up, you want them to be able to follow a simple, step-by-step plan to promote their business. Does the company or your sponsor provide that information? If so, were you able to follow it easily? If you answered no to any of those questions, I’ll bet it was frustrating. And, it will be just as frustrating to your prospects.

"Well, what if this is the business of my dreams ... and this is the ONLY thing that needs work," you ask?
That’s an easy one.

You know the process that *you* take to promote your business? Simply document that in a way that’s easy to follow and understand, and pass those steps on to your prospects. Voila! We’re keepin’ it simple.
