Progesterone and Estrogen as an Alternative to HRT by: Jeannine
Virtue
A Dec. 30, 2003 Associated Press
article stated that about one quarter of women who stopped taking hormone
replacement therapy because of its risks wind up resuming HRT because of
menopause misery.
This article verifies what we have
been saying all along; "No treatment is NOT an option." Women need an alternative
treatment to hormone replacement therapy. Otherwise, their lives can be
quite miserable.
Almost daily we receive an email,
phone call or forum post from a cranky, depressed, sleep-deprived and/or
over-heated woman in a desperate search for something - anything - that
will put the brakes on menopause symptoms without the use of synthetic
hormone replacement therapy.
We not only advocate staying away
from synthetic hormone replacement therapy, we advocate finding healthy,
effective alternative treatment options to hormone replacement therapy.
We advocate bringing your hormones in balance by using estrogen-building
nutritional support and progesterone cream treatment as an alternative
for hormone replacement therapy. In this newsletter we provide a step-by-step
guide to getting off hormone replacement therapy without making your life
miserable. This plan as outlined is near foolproof. Of course, you should
discuss medication alternatives with your regular health care provider.
In the first month you will begin
to slowly wean yourself off synthetic hormones while introducing the hormone
replacement therapy replacements. The purpose behind slowly tapering off
hormone replacement therapy is two-fold. First, you can avoid drug withdraw
by taking the slow approach. Second, slowly weaning yourself off hormone
replacement therapy provides the necessary time for the alternatives to
take hold. It typically takes a month or two for the natural alternative
elements to solidly work through your body.
Below the following schedule is a
description of each product listed:
Month 1:
- Decrease your dose of hormone replacement
therapy by half. You can do this by requesting a new prescription from
your physician or by physically cutting the pills in half.
- Begin using an organic, natural, USP
progesterone cream like Return to Eden progesterone cream.
- Begin using a nutritional menopause
support product like Preserve.
Month 2:
- Decrease your dose of hormone replacement
therapy by half again. Again, you can either request a new prescription
or cut the pills in half yourself.
- Continue your new regime of menopause
nutritional support products and progesterone cream.
Month 3:
- Decrease your dose of hormone replacement
therapy by half again or stop altogether.
- Continue taking menopause nutritional
suport products and natural progesterone cream.
Month 4:
- If you still experience menopause symptoms,
begin taking the Return to Eden estrogen cream. Although most women find
that their menopause symptoms are adequately adressed with progesterone
cream and nutritional support, this option usually knocks out any remaining
menopause symptoms in women who do need supplemental estrogen. Using a
natural estrogen cream like Return to Eden's Triest cream is safe and effective
because the estrogen is bioidentical to what a woman's body naturally makes.
You will use the estrogen alongside the progesterone for balance and to
avoid estrogen dominance.
For an in-depth view of the benefits
of natural progesterone, read "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About
Menopause: The Breakthrough Book on Natural Progesterone" by the late John
R. Lee, M.D., an international authority and pioneer in the use of natural
progesterone cream and natural hormone balance.
Diet and exercise also play an incredible
crucial role in how well your body fares through the changes of menopause.

Tips
For A Working Woman by: Colin Ong TS
With a more liberated society, it
is no longer uncommon for women to hold full-time jobs. The glass ceiling
that has been a barrier for women in the area of wages are showing clear
cracks. Even in the area of management strategy, some of the best thinkers
are women academics.
However, working women still have
to grapple with the multi-roles that they play – these are traditional
expectations of society. An example is in the area of looking after the
welfare of their young children and domestic upkeep.
This article will provide tips for
working women with a young family and without a full-time domestic help:
Communicate With Your Husband:
It is important that you communicate
with your husband about sharing household and domestic chores. This should
not be a difficult process as your income also helps pay the bills and
your husband must be a team player. A high priority should be the area
of the children’s well-being and study supervision.
Time Management:
Time management is an under-rated
virtue. You should draw up a weekly chart to manage your time. This weekly
chart must be realistic and take into account your children’s tests, extra-curricular
activities, household shopping needs. Remember to get the active involvement
of your husband.
Getting External Help:
If you and your husband have busy
schedules, it is also good to source out for part-time external help to
assist in the cleaning and cooking. Alternatively, you can seek the help
of your parents to supervise the welfare of the children or register your
children to a nearby student care centre. However, it must be remembered
that no amount of external help can substitute for quality time with your
children. Try to set aside at least the weekends to spend undisturbed time
with your family.
Concentrating At Work:
Since you are working for a company,
you must ensure that your full concentration should be on your work. Do
not use company time to handle domestic administration unless it is of
utmost importance. You are also entitled to take emergency time-off if
needed so it is crucial that you keep your superiors informed.
Working Long Hours:
It is not uncommon to work long hours,
as workers are sometimes required to multi-task. It is important for you
to strike a balance and important to inform your husband about your late
hours so that your children are not neglected after their normal school
hours. You can also request to finish some of your work at home if it requires
computer processing. Most families have at least a computer desktop at
home.
Interaction with Male Colleagues:
If the nature of your job requires
constant interaction with male colleagues after working hours, it is good
practice to inform your husband. You can easily send an SMS to him to inform
your whereabouts and he can arrange to fetch you home.
Attendance of Official Functions:
Inform your husband in advance if
you are required to attend an official function – Office D & D etc.
This will allow your husband to get to know your working colleagues and
fully appreciate your job responsibilities. Your husband will also be more
cooperative if you are required to work beyond the normal hours.
Further Studies – The Dilemma:
Being a workingwoman, you have to
consider about upgrading your skills. This may require pursuing further
studies after working hours. Yet again, you should express your decision
to study with your husband and loved ones so that logistical/financial
arrangements can be arranged in advance.

Women
of the Net by: Cathy Bryant
Two years ago, when I had been working
online about a year, an online colleague approached me about writing an
article for a special edition of his newsletter which was to feature successful
women online. Naturally, I agreed.
As I was researching for the article,
I read a statistic that revealed that women over 50 were one of the fastest
growing groups of internet users. That didn't surprise me, as at the time
I was approaching that "golden age" and had contact with others online
who were also in that age group.
All these women were using the vehicle
of the internet to earn an income online - and the numbers were growing
every day.
So I wrote the article, and it was
published not only in my colleague's newsletter but many others as well.
Now, two years later, I realize that
the things I discussed in that article are as relevant today as they were
two years ago when the article was first published - and we all know that
for anything to stay current online for two years it must be significant!
For that reason, I feel that they
bear repeating again. After all, there are an untold number of women -
in this age group as well as younger - who have entered the world of internet
business since that first article was published two years ago.
So what did I reveal in that article?
Consider this...
Women of ALL ages have made a conscious
decision to tackle the complexities of technology in order to achieve their
own goals and aspirations, whatever they may be.
What is it about the internet that
is so appealing to women? It's quite obvious, actually. The internet is
a massively large vehicle for what? Communication. And what do women generally
do better than men? You got it...communicate!
Look around, and you see women everywhere
online. And what else do you see? Sites created by women - providing every
type of information, service, or opportunity you can imagine.
Who are these women? People you know
-
-
Young mothers working from home in order
to be there with their children
-
Former corporate executives using skills
learned on the job to create their own successful businesses online
-
Empty nesters who find themselves embracing
the technology of their children's generation
-
Young women just out of school who have
chosen the career path of entrepreneur and are using the internet to achieve
those dreams
Each is different - but you can be sure
that all these women have certain characteristics in common. They have
the determination to tackle the often confusing technology of the internet,
and they have the passion it takes to accomplish their goals.
And succeed they do - in large numbers!

Are
Women Really Superior to Men? by: Salma N. Ajani
While doing my search for this idea,
I came across something interesting on the web. At a hospital the relatives
gathered in the waiting room, where a family member lay gravely ill. Finally,
the doctor came in looking tired and serious.
Surveying the worried faces, the
doctor said, "I'm afraid I'm the bearer of bad news. The only hope left
for your loved one at this time is a brain transplant. It's an experimental
procedure, very risky, you will have to pay for the brain yourselves."
The family members sat silent as
they absorbed the news. After a great length of time, someone asked, "Well,
how much does a brain cost?"
The doctor quickly responded, "$5,000
for a male brain, and $200 for a female brain."
The moment turned awkward. Men in
the room tried not to smile; avoiding eye contact with the women, but some
actually smirked. One man, unable to control his curiosity, blurted out
the question everyone wanted to ask, "Why is the male brain so much more
expensive?"
The doctor smiled at the childish
innocence and said to the entire group, "It's just standard pricing procedure.
We have to mark down the price of the female brains, because they've been
used."
Keeping all kidding aside, let’s
answer this age old question; evaluate what we know up to this point, scientifically
as well as culturally. Are women really superior to men?
Now research is confirming that the
brains of men and women are somewhat different. Studies show that human
male brains are, on average, approximately 10 percent larger than female
brains. Certain brain areas in women, however, contain more nerve cells.
We must pay special interest on the
amount of “gray matter,” the part of the brain that allows us to think.
The researchers wanted to know if women have as much gray matter as men
or more to make up for the smaller brains. Later, it was proven that women
have 55.4 percent gray matter, vs. 50.8 in men.
Men listen with only one side of
their brains, while women use both, according to information on brain imaging
presented in November 2002, at the 86th Scientific Assembly and Annual
Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).
Other research suggests that on average
the female brain performs better on some skills, while the male brain executes
other tasks at a higher level.
It makes sense that brains vary between
the sexes. Each sex had a very defined role in ancient time, which helped
ensure the survival of the human race. Cave men hunted. Cave women gathered
food near the home, and cared for the children.
None of these show superiority, but
does show that we are made differently, with different needs, and different
ideas. Why do we then compare for superiority, or even expect the other
to be just like us?
It is important to realize that man
and women are made differently, for a reason. Especially women, need someone
she can talk to, share her ideas with and grow with. Man need to hunt,
to protect, not ask for directions when they are lost, or I should say
just be Men.
In old times, especially in Asian
and Eastern cultures, women had many disadvantages (compared to now). Male
Emperors would marry many women. Society did not provide woman with many
rights. Women were pretty much confined to their homes. However, despite
of these disadvantages, there were few women who had access to that woman
wisdom, or power. Now, what was the difference between those women, who
found their power, vs. those who did not?
The answer is synergy. These powerful
women were each other’s support. No jealousies, no putting other women
down; just supporting each other to the best of their ability. In fact,
when the male emperor would mate with one of his wives, other wives would
take care of that wife ahead of time. Give her massages, feed her wonderful
and healthy foods, talk to her, and provide her with all the emotional
support that was needed.
Today, women have more rights, more
freedom, better living conditions. They are lot more aggressive, but they
still do not feel as empowered, peaceful and in control.
In today’s society, the concept of
women bonding is pretty much lost. Even when a woman goes to different
feminine organizations, her goal is networking, improving her business,
and benefiting anything and everything, but herself.
If you pay close attention and realize
that the difference between a plant, which is alive, and a plant which
is dead, is the plant which is alive, is growing. In order for our children
to survive, and humankind to flourish in the future, our children must
evolve beyond us. In order for them to go beyond us, they need to understand
life from all points of view, both male and female. That is why we are
here, to teach, to guide, and to help the universe expand and evolve with
our differences.
One day I was flipping TV channels
where I came across one of those shows where a priest was giving a sermon.
He asked something very interesting to his congregations. The question
was, “What is the best thing a father can do for their children”? The answer
was “Love their mother”. Now this is something I have learned all through
my life in my family as to how much powerful a woman can be. I do not mean
physically or even mentally. In fact, I grew up learning that my brothers
were much smarter and stronger then I was. But there was always this converse
of women power or women wisdom, which was always talked about, but was
never clarified.
Many women do not realize that their
superiority and strength comes from bonding with other women. Man can’t
full fill all of your needs and desires. When it comes to emotional bonding,
which usually comes from talking, sharing and connecting, girlfriends are
the key. Cherish your friends, and specially your women friendships.
Both Man and woman need to be supportive
and a source of strength for each other, but timing is the key. Women who
have other women to bond with, to share with, to educate and grow with,
have more peaceful marriages. These women do not desire to talk to their
husbands as soon as he walks into the home, tired from work. In fact, they
become source of strength and support for him.
More then half of the marriages end
up in divorce in this country. Some time it feels that all the advancement
are coming to us with a hefty price. More and more women find themselves
helpless, in one form or the other. All it boils down to is that all the
power and freedom did not come with the wisdom it required. Woman before
us got us the power to move forward, now, it is our responsibility to add
wisdom to this power before passing on to our next generation.
The difference between man and women
are logical. It makes sense that brains vary between the sexes. Men tend
to be more natural-born protectors while women are natural-born nurturers.
When women use these natural abilities to form, cultivate, and foster business
relationships, they can create lasting business associations in the business
circle.
To answer the question, are women
superior to men? The answer is, it does not really matter, if we choose
not to use that power and wisdom already given to us. From the beginning
of the time, only a handful of women are using their full power and wisdom.
They understand, and choose to learn and choose to use their strengths.
Whether you are a at-home mom or a working women, understanding and connecting
with other woman, educating ourselves and truly supporting each other,
will help us be who we naturally are, phenomenal women.

Stop
And Smell The Citrus by: News Canada
Rejuvenation essential for busy Canadian
moms
(NC)-Ask a typical Canadian mom if
she works full-time and you know what she'll answer.
Moms have to be multi-taskers: they
hold down demanding jobs, raise children, prepare meals, do the wash, manage
the household budget, take care of the home and nurture relationships with
their husband and extended family. Personal time is virtually non-existent;
yet to keep up the pace, moms need a break more than ever before.
Studies show that working women are
more likely to suffer from stress. According to Statistics Canada, in 1994/95,
27 per cent of all adult Canadian women were experiencing high life stress,
compared with only 22 per cent of adult men.
Trying to maintain that balance of
work, family and time pressures can take its toll on a woman. Often, they
don't get enough sleep, which can interfere with the ability to function
and retain information. And despite having a "full plate", many women fail
to maintain a regular, nutritious diet. They're so busy feeding and looking
after their families, they put their own nutritional needs on the back
burner.
Proper eating habits determine energy
levels and regulate the body's metabolism. That's why it's even more important
for women to fuel up on healthy foods to keep them going through their
long and busy days. For example, a diet rich in oranges, grapefruit or
other citrus can help fight fatigue because Vitamin C aids with iron absorption.
Citrus also supplies a wealth of carbohydrates, the major fuel source from
the brain. And drinking plenty of water is extremely important for circulating
nutrients and oxygen throughout the body. Being dehydrated will make a
person less energetic.
"Regular exercise, taking time to
relax and making healthy food choices is the best way for a mom to keep
her energy up and her stress levels down," says Dr. Liz Applegate, author,
nutritionist and professor at the University of California at Davis. "And
a daily dose of summer citrus such as Sunkist's oranges, grapefruits or
lemons, will help mom take care of herself, so she can take good care of
her family."
Since stress is a leading contributor
to depression and anxiety, it is crucial for women to take time to rejuvenate.
Here are a few simple things mothers
can do in the middle of a busy day to help them recharge:
-
Head outdoors - reach for the runners
instead of the remote
-
Get together with an old buddy
-
De-stress with a mini aromatherapy break:
simply peel an orange or lemon to release a wonderful, uplifting scent
-
Pamper yourself by visiting a spa for
a massage and beauty treatment
-
Hunker down with a good book
-
Turn up the music, sing and dance (like
no one is watching)
-
Try out a new recipe
-
Dig in the garden
-
Take a luxurious bath with relaxing
bath oil, scented candles and your favourite music
-
Laugh out loud! It's one of the best
energizers around.
