Life after Life

Mircea Eliade said in one of his works that is posible to fail in your death like is possible to fail your life.
Many people did not know what to do in that situation. The sorrow and tears are the most stupid and un-useful thing for the person who died.
What to do in this case how to help? The few advice we can give are inspired from lectures like Tibetan books of dead and many other similar lectures.
Death is for someone a great opportunity to reintegrate to fundamental level of life. According to Bardo Thodol a person when die has a chance to realize in one second what he did not succeed to realize in a whole life.

Relatives and friends have a unique opportunity to help him to reintegrate in the pure and clear primordial light.
But this must be done in the first days from the event of death first 49 days. The most important are the first 5 days. The chances to help after these 5 five days are less ad become almost 0 after 49 days.

Bardo describe many levels of pure light and the dead person try to identify with this levels. If he did not succeed in the first day he try at another energetic level. In Christian tradition we have 40 days and the prayers are similar.
The main idea in your prayer or meditation is to direct him to identify you with Clear Infinite Light to recognize clear light like his own nature. The main obstacle for a person who did not meditate or did not had a religious life is fear. He fear to identify clear infinite light.
Friend or relatives must meet him to pray together to help him realize that great identification. Tears and sorrow disturb him and make more bad than good.

The Tibetan Book of the Dead : The Great Liberation Through Hearing in the Bardo
by Francesca Fremantle (Translator), Chogyam Trungpa (Translator)
Shows that these ancient teachings are penetrating and relevant, not only for understanding death, but as a guide to life. Illustrated.
In this classic scripture of Tibetan Buddhism--traditionally read aloud to the dying--death and rebirth are seen as a process that offers the possibility of attaining ultimate liberation. This translation emphasizes the practical advice that the book offers to the living, with many lessons in human psychology.

"The Tibetan word Bardo means literally "intermediate state" - also translated as "transitional state" or "in-between state" or "liminal state". In Sanskrit the concept has the name antarabhāva." - From Wikipedia

"The Bardo Thodol (Tibetan: bardo "liminality"; thodol as "liberation"[1]), Liberation through Hearing in the Intermediate State, is a funerary text that describes, and intends to guide one through, the experiences of the consciousness after death during the interval known as bardo between death and rebirth. It also includes chapters on the signs of death and rituals to undertake when death is closing in or has taken place." From Wikipedia

"From the midst of that radiance, the natural sound of Reality, reverberating like a thousand thunders simultaneously sounding, will come. That is the natural sound of thine own real self. Be not daunted thereby, nor terrified, nor awed."

"O God, Boundless Light of this Reality, O loving and fierce celestial beings, angels and guides, O great spiritual teachers and saints I acknowledge the oneness of the Infinite Potential. "

"Reverend Sir, now that thou art experiencing the Fundamental Clear Light, try to abide in that state which now thou art experiencing."

RECOGNITION OF INFINITE, IMMORTAL SPIRIT OF THE PERFECT CLEAR LIGHT OF THE INFINITE POTENTIAL AS YOUR OWN NATURE.

The Tibetan Book of the Dead: Or The After-Death Experiences on the Bardo Plane, according to Lama Kazi Dawa-Samdup's English Rendering
by Karma-Glin-Pa (Author), W. Y. Evans-Wentz (Foreword), Donald S. Lopez Jr. (Author)

From Library Journal
Probably the single most recognizable Tibetan title to Western readers, this text (elaborated in the 14th century) discusses the process of death and rebirth as understood by Tibetan Buddhists.

Review
"Dr. Evans-Wentz, who literally sat at the feet of a Tibetan lama for years in order to acquire his wisdom...not only displays a deeply sympathetic interest in those esoteric doctrines so characteristic of the genius of the East, but likewise possesses the rare faculty of making them more or less intelligible to the layman."--Anthropology (on the previous edition)

Life After Life: The Investigation of a Phenomenon--Survival of Bodily Death
by Raymond Moody

Review
"It is  research like Dr. Moody presents in his book that will  enlighten many and will confirm what we have been  taught for two thousand years -- that there is life  after death." -- Elisabeth Kubler Ross, M.D. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Description

In Life After Life Raymond Moody investigates more than one hundred case studies of people who experienced "clinical death" and were subsequently revived.  First published in 1975, this classic exploration of life after death started a revolution in popular attitudes about the afterlife and established Dr. Moody as the world's leading authority in the field of near-death experiences.  Life after Life forever changed the way we understand both death -- and life -- selling millions of copies to a world hungry for a greater understanding of this mysterious phenomenon.

The extraordinary stories presented here provide evidence that there is life after physical death, as Moody recounts  the testimonies of those who have been to the "other side" and back -- all bearing striking similarities of an overwelming positive nature. These moving and inspiring accounts give us a glimpse of the peace and unconditional love that await us all.

The Sacred Art of Dying: How the World Religions Understand Death (Paperback)
by Kenneth Kramer

Kramer taught for a short time at San Jose State University, Death Dying & Religion. Of course, being the source of a book, it was intreguing to hear his arguments and views about each religion. Kramer describes in detail the geographical location of each religion and how similar each religion is, and how it ties in the same very locations that each religion has, with their own interpretations. ...This book is definitely a text book, but if you have any questions on why so many countries hate America based on their religions, perhaps we can better understand them but comparing them to your own views on religion. Even within the Christian religion, the differences are there. History runs high even amongsts Buddhists and it's sister religions. I do recommend this as a book to read.

What Dreams May Come [HD DVD] (1998)

Starring: Robin Williams, Cuba Gooding Jr.
Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra star in this visually stunning metaphysical tale of life after death. Neurologist Chris and artist Annie had the perfect life until they lost their children in an auto accident; they're just starting to recover when Chris meets an untimely death himself. He's met by a messenger named Albert (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and taken to his own personal afterlife--a freshly drawn world reminiscent of Annie's own artwork, still dripping and wet with paint. Meanwhile a depressed Annie takes her own life, compelling Chris to traverse heaven and hell to save Annie from an eternity of despair.

The multitextured visuals seem to have been created from a lost fairy tale. Heaven recalls the landscape paintings of Thomas Cole and Renaissance architecture complete with floating cherubs, while hell is a massive shipwreck, an upside-down cathedral overgrown with thorns and a sea of groaning faces popping out of the ground (one of those faces is German director Werner Herzog). Williams is the perfect actor to play against the imaginative computer-generated imagery--he himself is a human special effect. But the lack of chemistry between Williams and Sciorra is painfully apparent, and the flashback plot structure flattens the story's impact despite its deeply felt examinations of the heart and the spirit. Still, there's no denying Eugenio Zanetti's triumphant production design and the Oscar-winning special effects, which create a fully formed universe that is at once beautiful, eerie, and a unique example of movie magic. --Shannon Gee

After Life : What the Bible Really Says ~Douglas Connelly /  1995
From near-death experiences to the controversy over assisted suicide, Douglas Connelly offers Bible-based guidance to help Christians sort out faith and fantasy, truth and rationalization. Here's what the Bible really says about death, hell and heaven.

One popular book after another claims to have the answers. Personal accounts of near-death experiences, descriptions of what happens to our physical bodies, differing theories about heaven and hell - what does the Bible have to say about all this? Douglas Connelly has looked at what Scripture has to say and can help you understand what it means for you. This book evaluates near-death experiences while offering a biblical picture of heaven and hell.

"A near-death experience (NDE) refers to a broad range of personal experiences associated with impending death, encompassing multiple possible sensations ranging from detachment from the body, feelings of levitation, extreme fear, security, or warmth, the experience of absolute dissolution, and the presence of a light, which some people interpret as a deity or spiritual presence. Many cultures and individuals revere NDEs as a paranormal and spiritual glimpse into the afterlife." From Wikipedia
